CONVICTION OF SCOTTISH FJORD SOCIETY PRESIDENT MR DAVID STEWART

Over the past five years we have attempted to distance ourselves from the court conviction in March 2009 of Mr David Stewart of the Fjord Horse Registry of Scotland-Fjord Horse UK. Mr Stewart was convicted of offences under the Animal Welfare Act in respect of fjord horses emaciated & having died under his care. We have been criticised for not publishing all we know but we believe we have made the right decision as some of the photos were too distressing.

As there was some confusion about the names of the two organisations & questions as to whether Mr Stewart was connected to this the National Fjord Association, we feel it necessary to point out that we are nothing whatever to do with Mr Stewart or the defunct Fjord Society based in Scotland.

We will not as an organisation go into detail concerning this distressing case so to all of those who have e-mailed us for comments, photographs, news and updates, we suggest that you read the many on-line news articles on the matter for such information which are still online. Horse & Hound covered the story for two weeks (18th March & 2nd April 09) as did many other magazines. We have registered in 2009 and are even in 2015 continuing to register a few fjord horses owned by ex members of the Scottish Society and are happy to answer questions and queries regarding those fjords. Fjord Horse passports issued by the defunct Scottish society are invalid and if anyone has one of those passports, it is strongly suggested that you apply for a new one.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people who have made kind comments about our handling of their requests for updated passports. It has been our duty and pleasure to assist & we will continue to do so. It is telling that some years down the line we are still fielding the repercussions of this sad case.

now let us

WELCOME

ALL NEW OWNERS

to the world of the Fjord Horse

We are sure you will be delighted with your new family friend.

You should have received his/her passport when you purchased your Fjord Horse.

It has come to our attention that a number of passports do not tie up with the Fjord Horse they have accompanied. Most of these fjords have been imported by various dealers and because they often bring in several fjords at once, they have almost certainly, in the cases we have uncovered, innocently mixed the passports up.   Most people find it difficult to interpret the different languages and therefore it is not wholly surprising   this occurs.   We are not in any way criticising dealers.   Purchasing from a reputable dealer can be very good and safe way to obtain a quality horse but as most fjords look similar to each other with no white markings to distinguish one from another, errors will and do occur.

We are here to help.   With our extensive research facilities and wide knowledge base we are certain to be able to help and solve any problems. We have successfully traced fjords with no known lineage as well as uniting fjords with their correct paperwork.

Also, if you decide to register your fjord with us, we can ensure you are recorded with this office and NED as the registered legal owner in the United Kingdom of Great Britain. This could prove invaluable if your fjord was stolen or indeed for many other issues.   Food for thought - if your fjord was stolen and you unknowingly had an incorrect passport ,   it could prove difficult when he/she is recovered if you were unable to match the passport to the actual horse.

We have even been presented with forged passports.   These forgeries do not seem to be detected by vets etc and it is only because they were sent in to our office for change of ownership they came to light.   We have in the majority of cases, been able to trace the correct details much to the relief of the worried owners. We have also been presented with fjords who have been issued passports by one of the non breed passport issuing companies in the UK . In most cases these fjords are traceable and should have been accompanied by their original passports if they were imported from overseas.

No doubt the reason you chose the fjord breed is because of it's famous good temperament which is the result of carefully selected bloodlines chosen by knowledgeable breeders through each generation. It is a great shame to deprive the fjord world, and the new owner, of knowledge of that lineage. A fjord with a breed passport is a recognised, registered equine and therefore is likely to be more valuable as a result.

We urge anyone who has acquired a new fjord horse to contact us and we will be happy to guide , advise and check out your passport for you. You will find us knowledgeable and friendly.

We are always ready to help or even have a chat   in any matter connected with the Fjord Horse.
