Message: I too offer my congratulations on a super site. One thing though. I looked at
the other website and I noticed the stallion Magnus advertised at stud. Is
that the one I saw as a foal at the Ausdan Stud some years ago? I notice it
does not have a prefix and the others do yet its pedigree is Ausdan. The
little stallion Viking has a prefix. Maybe you could explain please. I breed
cats and we have a prefix I also breed ponies and use my prefix. If an animal
is good enough to use its breeder should be recognised don't you think? Do I
detect a little bit of spite? Not good for the breed don't you agree?

Message: You have a great professional site there. I browsed it all evening. The fjords
are gorgeous without a doubt. The cyber vet Jeremy is quite a catch too by all
accounts. Thanks, you have made me look at fjords in a different way. Gorgeous
they are but I surely did not know they were so versatile. Great promotional
 site.

Message: I loan a Norwegian fjord called Rolo and am trying to find out some of his
history. He currently lives in Hillingdon in Middlesex and I know the owner of
the yard bought him from a riding school in the South which also had another
Fjord for sale. He is now about 16 years old - and unfortunately this is all I
know! Does any of this very small amount of information ring a bell with
anyone?! I spent a year at the National Fjord Horse Stud in Norway and have
been soooooo fortunate to find one of these amazing horses in the UK. Thanks
for a great site - and any help you may be able to give me!

Message: Some years ago, we purchased a fjord from Kevinclathder Stud in Wales. We have
had great pleasure from her and love her dearly. We had her checked by the vet
and we wonder if he is The Cyber Vet everyone is talking about. If he is, he
was ever so dishy. We would love to see a photo of him to see if he is the
same one and if he is he will remind us of our start with fjords. We have a
picture of Lyn with Gemmie which has pride of place as the first one in our
ever growing album. We are not allowed to ride at present because of the foot
and mouth but we are still enjoying our horsey activities. We are spending
more time on the net and we rank this site as one of the best.
 Good luck to you all,

 Kate.

Message: This site is a great tribute to fjords. On of my friends owns a fjord called
Maple Mermaid the 2nd and i was wondering did she have any brothers or sisters?
i know her parents are Maple Viking and Maple Mermaid but i was just wondering
did she have any brothers or sisters from the same parents and if so were they
 in the gallery?

foot & mouth disease. As it was presumably put on there by the cyber vet
Jeremy Jones could we now have a picture of him, maybe alongside the
information. We are all a crowd of liveries in Bedfordshire and we all
gathered around Pat's computer last night to read what we should and should not
do about Foot & Mouth Disease. Thank you Jeremy Jones Cyber Vet, you and the

Message: I agree with Marie. Well done on the foot & mouth information section. I too
feel more informed now. What a relief to read correct information instead of
some of the newspaper sensationalism that is being written. Some of it is so
full of contradictions It is good to see your information is from MAFF and not
what you think yourselves. We are very grateful to you and we will straight
away stop riding on the roads as they go past sheep farms. We now understand
how easily things can spread. What an awful time you have to go through with
those people and their unfriendly messages. What is the matter with them? I
can tell you one thing, they love themselves not fjords. They present
themselves as spiteful individuals so you just carry on the great work.

Message: Yet again we find ourselves having to intervene because of inappropriate use of
this guestbook. This miss-use has also resulted in a formal complaint being
made regarding the content of some of the messages. We cannot constantly censur
the guestbook, and we cannot of course be responsible for what others place on
 it.
With the country in the grip of a farming crisis it is a pity that these people
cannot put their efforts into something more worthwhile than trying to score
points by putting provocative messages on a public guestbook. What must the
Fjord fraternity look like to others? We are sure that Gladys Williams voices
all our views concerning the very real and worrying time the farming community
are facing. Let us all spare a thought and a prayer for them. The majority of
the country is rallying to do their bit, and with the 'horse-world's' close
connections to agriculture it is even more important that we take it seriously
and be seen to be taking it seriously. Even events unconnected with farming
are being cancelled in the hope of helping a little.
We suggest that those of you who waste your time, and ours, with these silly
antics, divert your energies into helping in any way you can to stop the spread
 of this terrible virus.
We will leave the two messages on the guestbook, (others have been removed),to
illustrate the point, and explain why this statement has been issued.
We implore these people to stop using this guestbook as a battleground.
Please, as stated previously, do something useful instead. You will find
comprehensive details of what our country is going through, the nature of the
virus, and what you can do to help, on this website. DO take a look, just go
to our 'Home Page' and click the flashing button.

Message: I am happy to see your worthy guestbook back on track. Some of the recent
comments from so-called fjord lovers bear the hallmarks of mental instability.
I suggest the ring leader is a recluse type individual who has 'blossomed'

Message: I often take a look at this site before work and have been fascinated by the
rude and offensive, often doubled meaning messages left by people who bear all
the hallmarks of initially, jealousy and following on, the trapped in a corner
syndrome. That is my opinion of course. I am interested in statistics among
other things and have been studying the Norwegian Fjord horse stallions in
England, Scotland and Wales. It is interesting to note Ausdan Stud, who have
been the subject of so much debate it seems, are responsible for almost all of
the stallions standing in these isles of ours. A very important stud it
appears to me and one worthy of congratulations and thanks. It also seems to
me that it expresses no jealousy of its own, as it has distributed its
stallions among other studs and not kept them within its own ownership or worse
still, gelded its surplus. That ought to be some large chunks of food for
thought among those of you who appear to wish to destroy this fine breed of
animal and you surely will as the public at large will not like what is is
seeing. Noble as the Norwegian Fjord is, there are a great number of other
ponies equally beautiful within our islands. You should be grateful to the
Ausdan Stud and openly thank it . You 'enjoy?' the horses you have today,
largely due to the work of that stud. Just my humble observations.

Message: I think this site, its fjords and its people are just fine. How can anyone be
so childish as to leave some of the stupid messages I have seen today and
yesterday. All this about the Ausdan Stud. When I went there two summers ago
I was treated with courtesy and generosity. I saw the stallions, the young
ones, the young mares and the main herd. Nothing was hidden and I loved my
visit. Like Cathy, I would stay forever if I could. I met Lyn and she was
charming. Do try and act your age you people unless you belong to a retarded
childrens group you have no excuse for your behaviour

Message: A message to the friendly, serious fjord-lovers who visit the website of the
ONLY EU RECOGNISED FJORD BREEDING SOCIETY IN GREAT BRITAIN. The Fjord Horse
National Stud Book Association of Great Britain.
In the last few hours, it has been announced that a new computer-virus has been
speeding around the computers of the world. At the same time our website -
once again - is being violated by a little group of terrorists, whose main
purpose seems to be only to destroy, to insinuate and to insult.
We have a special comment to pass to you people who like to destroy: why don't
you continue this game of yours on your own website and let this one be what it
is intended to be: an informative website about the beautiful Norwegian
Fjordhorse, whose temperament seems to be much better than the temperament of
some of the people who 'pretend' to take an interest in our magnificent breed.

Message: To Timothy

To answer your questions, when our Secretary Lyn returns in the week we will
ask her about Frivolity for you.
Yes the Ausdan Stud is going strong and is bigger than ever. It has several
stallions and is importing another soon . Its herd of mares have 80 acres of
beautiful countryside to cavort in and the foals in the summer are a beautiful
sight. Many of the mares are descendants of some of the best from the Maple
Stud and others are of new lines. The Ausdan Stud also has land overlooking the
sea which is where the stallions go on holiday from work and stud duties. It
also uses it's other name of Cilyblaidd Manor and the Society Offices are
housed in a part of its estate.

The Maple Stud was indeed disbanded due to the death of the great Mrs Janet
Kidd without whom Fjords would never have gained the momentum they did in our
 country.
We hope that answers some of your questions.
 Regards to you

Message: Society Office - Thank you for confirming the information about Maple Acorn and
for updating me about the society vet, Dr Kold. It is amazing to think that it
was ten years ago since Dr Kold moved on - time passes so quickly! Does the
society office not know what became of Maple Frivolity by Nils? She was such a
marvellous creature and a real favourite of mine. It is very sad indeed that
the Maple Stud no longer breeds these marvellous ponies anymore and that all we
are left with are the memories of how things used to be. I remember that Ausdan
Stud at one time used to breed many fjords, but alas we never see or hear about
Ausdan stock these days. It would be nice to know if Ausdan Stud, like the
famous Maple Stud, is now also defunct.

Message: Timothy, you are right about Maple Acorn. We are preparing some interesting
information for Amy on the subject which we are sure she will enjoy.
Dr Kold was an excellent Society Vet and his Danish roots certainly helped the
society in its early years. He grew up with fjords in his midst and taught us
many things. When we asked him to judge a class, those classes were always
bigger than usual with the emphasis on female handlers. In the early 90's he
went on to specialise and his place was taken by Mike Daniells M.R.C.V.S who
did a sterling job for us. Our present Hon. Veterinary Surgeon, Jeremy Jones,
reminds us of Dr Kold in many ways. Even down to the 'Fan Club'.

Message: Amy - I know the mare Maple Acorn was by Maple Viking ex Maple Mermaid and was
owned by a family called Hoskins. If I recall correctly, she was unable to
have offspring, but the society office would know more about this. Am I correct
in thinking that her full sister is Maple Mermaid 2, who must be getting on for
twenty-four years old now? I remember Dr Kold M.R.C.V.S was very taken with
Maple Acorn at an early breed show at Maple Stud in Surrey. By the way,
whatever happended to Dr Kold, who was so actively involved with the society
until a few years ago? Finally, I was thinking recently of a mare called Maple
Frivolity by Nils. What did become of her? Is she still alive and well?

Are you sure the fjord you saw was indeed a fjord? Perhaps you saw a connemara
and can't tell the difference, as Jennifer Murray was unable to back in 1964.
It could, of course, be a fjord x shetland. I have heard about one such horse
being in England! The only stallion I have heard of called Viking is Maple
Viking, who is a pure bred fjord. Where in Northumberland did you see this
 pony?

Message: I would like to help to try and get this excellent Guestbook back to the fun
and cheerful status. I agree with that judge. A wise man. I have a fjord cross
and I have spent years telling people about the fjords because she looks so like
one, not even a judge could tell the difference. I entered a show last year
where there were three other fjords. I beat all three. It was a foreign
breeds class and I did not realise I maybe should have told the judge she was a
half bred. The judge picked me first and said I had a quality fjord. The stud
she came from was Hearsay in Devon. It is so easyto mistake half breds for the
real thing. I could breed from her and the foal would relly be a fjord almost.

So, back to fun, my husband and I love the site and this chauvenist vet seems
like good clean fun. Let us have fun with our fjords and him. I wonder if he
likes the adoring fans. I bet he is great with our fjords, they have almost
given him star quality. Lin, what does he look like!!!! We are dying to know.

Your chauvenist vet is fab and so are the horses. I too have one of those but
he is as old. 83 I think. I also have a fjord. She is not young anymore but
I love her dearly. I love visiting this website. bye bye XXXX

Message: I too am pleased with your intervention Sir. I do not wish to be disrespectful
to others but the apparent clique of people who raided your Guestbook were
rather stupid to commence a vendetta in the glare of a public guestbook. I do
know a little of what I am talking about as I am a county court judge with a
love of Scandinavian horses. I do perfectly well understand your annoyance at
having your guestbook violated but some of those comments were so base they
 were very funny.
You were quite right sir to call a halt.

Message: O.K. Folks. Enough is enough. The build up of comments following certain
messages left over the last 24 hours may have been a source of amusement for
some, but have required careful monitoring of the Guest Book on a frequent
basis because of obscenities placed on its pages in the early hours of
 yesterday morning.

It is our intention that the Guest Book should be an area which it is a
pleasure to visit. IT IS NOT A TOOL FOR THE AIRING OF GRIEVIANCES against
anybody. We have established procedures for that sort of thing.

We do not wish to be drawn into a form of Internet warfare and we feel that to
allow this to continue can only be detrimental to the Fjord Horse
which we are all presumably supporting. We cannot stop people leaving
messages but it would be much appreciated if you would respect our wishes and
resist the temptation to add any more comments on this particular theme.

As I said - ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

To those of you we have taken off these pages, we will reply to you by e.mail if
we are aware of your identity.

PLEASE JUST KEEP ALL OF THIS NEGATIVE STUFF OUT OF OUR GUEST BOOK. WHAT MUST IT
LOOK LIKE TO THE REST OF THE WORLD.

Message: Thank you for giving us the opportunity to tell our guests about our studbook
entry rules which we are justly proud of.

We compltely uphold the principle of pure breeding as laid down by the Mother
Studbook of the breed, Norway. The Norwegian Authorities are aware of our
standards and agree with our strict proceedures.
In order to gain entry into our Main Stud Book, the fjord must be able to trace
its ancestry through approved stock to its origins in Norway. It must have at
least five generations recorded by a Norwegian approved organisation or an
orgaisation accepted by Norway. As most of our founding stock originated in
Denmark and was not bred in GB we fulfil that requirement. The reason that
rule exists is that the Fjord, being a pure and ancient breed, stamps its
characteristics on other breeds so powerfully that it can be difficult for all
but an expert to distinguish between pure breds and some part breds. In Norway
and Denmark, Fjords have been bred pure for generations under strict
guidelines. In Britain, as a controlling body for the breed is relatively new
(around 15 years) breeding control was left in the hands of breeders, some
dilligent some not. Fjords were sold on and some owners bred from them. The
net result being fjords and lookalikes in some cases indistinguishable from
each other. This society operates a strict stud book entry criteria with many
animals not able to reach its high standard.
Some such animals are owned by a person in Scotland who made such an issue of
things that eventually it appears he started his own society in order for him
to 'register' his own stock and others. He adopted a three generation rule
after which his stock would be accepted by his organisation. We are given to
understand that he has now had to accept a five generation rule. Even so, the
great majority of his stock cannot trace back authentically to the Norwegian
 Fjord.

This society, because of its strict beginnings, is proud to be able to say that
the majority of it's stock does trace back to its Norwegian forbearers.

With regard to part breds, yes we do indeed have a register for them. (Note the
word REGISTER and not stud book. These animals are not permitted to upgrade
and stay on the register for life. The reason we have a part bred register is
that the part bred fjord can be of genetic use to the society through
evaluation and that these animals need to be registered somewhere.
So we do not enter any animal into our Stud Books unless it has authentic
lineage as described above. We do enter a part bred into our REGISTER.

Message: TO FIONA

The stallions you refer to are among the original stallions going back more
than 20 years, and are no longer standing as serving stallions. A forward
thinking National Stud Book Association such as ours, particularly when it is
the only one in G.B. officialy recorded with the EC. as being recognised by the
Ministry of Agriculture (MAFF) in accordance with EC. regulations, has to move
on and strive to introduce new bloodlines. We do not approve of indiscriminate
breeding or inbreeding which was sadly so prevalent in certain areas of GB, so
new lines have to be selected at varying intervals, and the old stallion
lines retired. With a small nucleous of bloodlines, new blood is vital. Three
of our members are in the process of importing new stallion lines for next
year which we are very excited about.
Thank you for your query and interest in 'the boys' as you call them. It is
touching to know that some of the Society's old stallions have had such an
impact on people that they are still being asked about, as indeed such
 exceptional stallions deserve to be.
Finally, if you need specific information about any of our very special horses,
then perhaps it is the owners themselves that you should contact rather than
the Society, as they can probably help you more 'intimately'. If you e.mail the
society office, it will be passed to the relevant owners.
Thank you again for your interest.
